Why The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is Basically an Aardman Animations Film

Image
In 2018, Disney released The Nutcracker and the Four Realms , a live-action film adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann and Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky's Christmas ballet The Nutcracker , which bombed at the box office. Looking back on this underrated fantasy adventure film, I see that it has more than a little in common with the works of Aardman Animations, a British animation studio that specializes in stop-motion. In case you were wondering, Aardman is responsible for three hugely successful animated works: Chicken Run , Wallace and Gromit , and Shaun the Sheep . These hilarious animated stories have received many awards and nominations. This article will compare the aforementioned three stories to The Nutcracker and the Four Realms in terms of themes and subject matter. Here are the similarities I have found: 1. The works are set in England, often in a period format. 2. They take heavy inspiration from famous cinematic works. 3. Intelligent animals appear in major roles, often communicating t

Movie Matchups: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2 vs. Avengers: Endgame

Every story has an end. The 2019 science fiction superhero film  Avengers: Endgame  provided closure for the Infinity Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in the process, but the story is basically the same as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2 , the grand finale of the Harry Potter film series and the highest-grossing film of Warner Bros. and its parent company WarnerMedia. Let me tell you why. After suffering heavy casualties in a previous film ( Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 1 / Avengers: Infinity War ), the series' original leads (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger/Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rogers/Captain America/ Bruce Banner/Hulk, Thor, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, and Clint Barton/Hawkeye), a newly rescued researcher with vast knowledge on advanced technology and otherworldly phenomena (Mr. Ollivander/Scott Lang/Ant-Man), a blonde-haired foreign woman (Fleur Delacour/Carol Danvers/C

Top 10 Prisons in Film

Hello, Toby Gold here and welcome to another Top 10 List. Today, I will be counting down my Top 10 Prisons in Film. For this list, I have chosen cinematic slammers where life is unbearable and escape is difficult, assuming the inmates succeed in breaking out. Prison is one of my greatest fears, and I do not want to have to face it in real life. For those of you who have not seen these movies, I will issue a spoiler alert, so you have been warned. Now, let's put on our jumpsuits and begin our sentence. 10. Erewhon Prison -- Face/Off  (1997) FBI agent Sean Archer uses an experimental plastic surgery procedure to disguise himself as his nemesis, terrorist mastermind Castor Troy, and infiltrate his gang. However, Troy uses the same procedure to disguise himself as Archer and infiltrates the latter's family while Archer-as-Troy is sent to Erewhon Prison, a high-tech private prison where the Geneva Convention does not apply. Erewhon, which is an anagram for "nowh

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets vs. Sky High

Image
Did you know that Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets  and the 2005 teen superhero comedy film  Sky High  are the same story? Let me tell you why. The son (Harry Potter/Will Stronghold) of a famous couple (James and Lily Potter/Steve and Josie Stronghold aka the Commander and Jetstream, respectively) with extraordinary powers (Harry is a wizard, as were his parents/Will is the son of two superheroes) attends a special school for those with similar abilities (Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry/Sky High). The school is divided into castes (students at Hogwarts are assigned to houses based on their personality traits/at Sky High, students are designated as heroes or sidekicks based on the nature of their powers), one of which consists primarily of bullies (Slytherin/Heroes) who antagonize the hero and his caste (Gryffindor/Hero Support) throughout the year. The hero's close friends and classmates include a bully magnet (Ron Weasley/Ethan Bank) and a smart girl (Hermione

Hello, Toby Gold here and welcome to another Top 10 List. Today, I'm going to be counting down my Top 10 Films Where the Protagonist Dies. For this list, I have compiled movies where the protagonist (main character) is ejected from the story. However, I am excluding animals from this list, so sorry Caesar. For those of you who have not seen these movies, I will warn you that this list is one giant spoiler. So, let us begin. 10. Road to Perdition  (2002) In this underrated masterpiece of a crime drama, Tom Hanks stars as Michael Sullivan, Sr., a mob enforcer who takes his younger son, Michael, Jr., on the run after Connor Rooney, the volatile and jealous son of his boss and surrogate father, John, murders their family. Sullivan plans to leave Michael, Jr. with relatives while he goes after the mob, but when they are pursued by a voyeuristic assassin named Harlen Maguire, Sullivan takes his son on a bank-robbing spree through Depression-era Illinois, hoping to
