Pacific Rim: Uprising

Image
Today, I saw Pacific Rim: Uprising . I have to admit, it is inferior to the 2013 original. In it, John Boyega ( Star Wars ) trains a group of kids to fight the Kaiju. Boyega's Star Wars  co-star Harrison Ford did basically the same thing in Ender's Game . What I did not like was that the scientist played by Charlie Day ( It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia ), who was a good guy in the original, was portrayed in negative light in the sequel due to linking his brain to a Kaiju brain. What I did like was Captain Boyega's speech to his young trainees, saying that they can be awesome no matter who their parents were. Another highlight was the presence of Scott Eastwood ( The Fate of the Furious ), son of the one and only Clint Eastwood, as Boyega's character's co-pilot. Also, I found some references to other films. Like in  The Avengers , a mecha flies a missile into space in order to kill the advancing aliens. Like in Star Wars , characters use glowing swords against

Independence Day vs. Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim: Uprising  has recently come out in theatres, but the original is basically the same story as Roland Emmerich's 1996 sci-fi blockbuster Independence Day . Let me tell you why. Aliens (Harvesters, Kaiju) have invaded Earth, destroying some of the planet's major landmarks (the Harvesters position themselves over various major cities and military bases; the Kaiju cut a path of destruction through Earth, destroying countless cities). To fight the aliens, humanity unites to take back the planet (international leaders order individual counterattacks; humanity builds massive robotic machines called Jaegers to combat the Kaiju). As humanity begins to lose the fight (half the world's cities are destroyed, the First Lady is killed, and nuclear missiles are ineffective against the Harvesters; the Kaiju increase in power, their attacks more frequent, and the Jaegers are being destroyed faster than they are being built), a determined human leader (President Thomas J. Whit

The Lord of the Rings vs. Moana

Disney's 2016 Polynesian fantasy Moana  was entertaining, but it was basically Disney's version of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings  trilogy. Let me tell you why. Long ago, a godlike being (Sauron/Te Fiti) created a powerful token (One Ring/Heart of Te Fiti) and used it to shape the world to their liking (Sauron forged the One Ring in order to cover all of Middle-earth in darkness/Te Fiti used the Heart to create life). However, a misguided hero (Isildur/Maui) stole the token (during a great battle in the land of Mordor, Isildur cut the ring from Sauron's finger/Maui stole the Heart in order to give humanity the power of creation), causing the god to lose his/her power (since Sauron poured a substantial amount of his own power into the Ring, he lost physical form/Te Fiti disintegrated and turned into a lava witch called Te Kā), only to be struck down by evil forces and lose the token to the water (Isildur is shot full of arrows by Orcs and loses the One Ring

Hello, Toby Gold here and welcome to another Top 10 List. Today I'll be counting down my Top 10 Worst Mentors, Advisors, and Role Models in Film. For this list, I've chosen characters that were widely trusted and/or looked up to, only for it to turn out that they weren't very good people. Also, if you haven't seen the movie, there may be spoilers ahead, so you have been warned. So, let's begin! 10. Ernesto de la Cruz - Coco  (2017) Once upon a time in Mexico, Héctor Rivera and Ernesto de la Cruz were a famed musician duo. Héctor wrote songs and Ernesto sang them, until the day the former decided to return home to his wife, Imelda, and daughter, Coco. Caring more about fame than music, Ernesto poisoned Héctor and took credit for his songs, which he twisted beyond recognition. He acquired fame and fortune from his lies, and lived a prosperous life until he was crushed by a bell while performing on stage. And it didn't stop there. Ernesto's fa
