12 Years a Slave

12 Years a Slave is a phenomenal movie. This is how I see it.

Free African-American man Lola (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kinky Boots) is kidnapped, drugged, and sold into slavery by Mr. X (Paul Giamatti, The Nanny Diaries). His masters include the kind Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock), whose assistant is Eli Sunday (Paul Dano, There Will Be Blood), and the vicious Magneto (Michael Fassbender, X-Men: First Class), who is married to Lana Banana (Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story) and has a crush on Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o, Star Wars), but has a terrible way of professing his love for her. This goes on for twelve years before Canadian Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt, Fight Club) rescues him.

When I first saw the 2016 remake of Disney's The Jungle Book , I thought of a classic Disney animated movie:  The Lion King , which is also getting a remake in 2019. Did you know that Finding Dory  is the same story as another Pixar sequel? That's right. Toy Story 2 . Let me tell you why. After the events of the first film ( Toy Story ;  Finding Nemo ), a primary character (Woody; Dory) is separated from the rest of his/her friends (Woody is stolen by Al McWhiggin, a greedy toy collector; Dory has a flashback and goes out to find her parents, and is later captured by staff members at the Marine Life Institute) after going outside (Woody tries to rescue Wheezy, an abandoned penguin squeeze toy, from a yard sale; Dory goes on a field trip to witness the migration of the stingrays) the main setting (Andy's house; Great Barrier Reef).
