Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot

Yesterday, I saw a biographical comedy-drama film called Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot. I believe that deserves an Oscar. This is how I see it.


Kenai (voice of Joaquin Phoenix, Brother Bear*) is an alcoholic who is rendered paraplegic after a car accident involving a drunk Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black, Tropic Thunder). With the help of a charismatic sponsor, Kenai finds a new lease on life drawing off-colour newspaper cartoons. Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara, Carol) is Kenai's girlfriend.

The Lion King (1994) vs. The Jungle Book (2016)

When I first saw the 2016 remake of Disney's The Jungle Book , I thought of a classic Disney animated movie:  The Lion King , which is also getting a remake in 2019. So in honour of the upcoming 2018 gritty adaptation Mowgli , let me tell you why they are the same story. In the wilderness of a third-world country (Kenya; India), the young son (Simba; Mowgli) of a well-respected animal leader (Mufasa; Akela) lives a happy life with a tribe of predators (lions; wolves) until his life is threatened (Mufasa's younger brother, Scar, covets the throne and plots to kill Mufasa and Simba so he can be king; vicious tiger Shere Khan resents man for burning his face with a dangerous force known as "the Red Flower" and wants to kill Mowgli as a result) by a scarred feline (Scar; Shere Khan). Men in Black vs. Kingsman: The Secret Service

Today, I have a cold, so I may not be in the game. When I first saw Kingsman: The Secret Service , I felt as if someone had dared Matthew Vaughn to make a British remake of Men in Black . This is why they are the same story. In 1997 ( MiB  takes place in that year;  Kingsman  opens in that year), an elderly spy (Agent D; Lee Unwin) exits the business (D decides he's too old for the job and asks his partner to erase his memory; Lee throws himself on a terrorist's grenade, saving his boss' life) after a standoff with a criminal in a dangerous region (the MiB agents intercept a truck full of illegal immigrants near the Mexican border, identifying a literal alien among them, who resists arrest and is killed by the agents; the Kingsman agents capture a terrorist in the Middle East, who tries to blow himself up while in custody).
